COP 15 – 2009
In August of 2009, York University officially secured observer status. A delegation of students, staff and faculty attended COP 15 in Copenhagen Denmark in December 2009.
During COP15 York and ECOAR launched the Global Climate Justice for Disenfranchised People Web Portal. The student body was engaged in developing presentation ideas for the conference, a banner of messages to COP15 delegates, and a movable mural. Students also prepared a video of thoughts on climate justice and climate change. The video features Prof. Jose Etcheverry. View the York Climate Justice Video here.
The following presentations were given: Prof. Jose Etcheverry on renewable energy and North American feed-in tariffs, Prof. Anders Sandberg at “Seminars in the Street”, and Prof. Ellie Perkins, ECOAR Executive Director Miriam Duailibi, IRIS Staff Annette Dubreuil, and students Benjamin Ramirez Jimenez spoke numerous times about the Web Portal.
IRIS is now considering attending the COP16 conference in Mexico, to continue promoting climate justice issues at this international event.
